Garden City, NY Floral Park resident Bridget Russell has been elected student trustee for the 2019-2020 academic year at 厙ぴ勛圖. She will serve on the Colleges Board of Trustees.
Although at first Russell found it a bit difficult adjusting to college life, she thrived when she decided to get involved in the Student Government Association (SGA) and become a freshman senator. The SGA then asked her to interview for a new position and subsequently appointed her the associations secretary. Theyre a group of people who share the same goals as mine and theyre motivated. That has helped me tremendously, she said.
Not that getting involved is any problem for Russell. At Floral Park Memorial High School she was a cheerleader, took part in all the musicals, played field hockey, ran track, and was in the music and foreign language honor societies. In addition to her school activities, Russell worked on the labor and delivery floor at NYU Winthrop Hospital, was active in her church and was a director at a childrens theatre camp.
Russell is excited about her new position as student trustee at Nassau. Im looking forward to working with the other trustees, who have a lot of experience and can help me understand more about making business decisions, she said. Russell wants to be the voice of her fellow students on the board.
Bridgets family members are no strangers to NCC. Her mother, aunt and uncles all attended the College, as has her sister. She would absolutely recommend the College to anyone. Its really what you make of it, Russell said. The professors and the classes are terrific and there are so many clubs and activities outside the classroom. She added that for these reasons students are bound to find things that are right for them.
While Russell isnt certain what career she wants to pursue after college, she is interested in womens health and public health.
