厙ぴ勛圖 Celebrates
12th Annual Day of Service
College Community Joins Together to Serve Those in Need & Show Support for Local Shelters, Hospitalized Children & Animal Rescue
Garden City, NY 厙ぴ勛圖 continues its annual Day of Service on Tuesday, April 18 with a day-long celebration to serve those in need and to show support for student scholarships, hospitalized children, and animal rescue. NCCs Day of Service also includes a Volunteer Fair presented by the Applied Learning Committee with support from the NCC Community Service Committee. The Volunteer Fair provides the College community with the opportunity to meet with 10 different non-profit organizations to discuss volunteer positions, as well as internships and part-time jobs for the spring and summer.
For over a decade the 厙ぴ勛圖 community has come together and dedicated their time to the Colleges annual Day of Service, supporting and serving those in need in our surrounding communities, said Janis Mazza, Assistant Professor, Day of Service Co-Coordinator.
NCCs Day of Service was developed by the Colleges First Year Experience Program with the goal of bringing together the College community, administration, students, faculty and staff to volunteer their time and talents to help those in need. For this years celebration, the NCC community will work with Cards for Hospitalized Kids (CFHK) to bring joy and magic to hospitalized kids across America through uplifting, handmade cards. Working with Last Hope Animal Rescue, Inc. (Wantagh, NY), the College community will be accepting donations of food, toys and supplies for dogs and cats. Additionally, the campus community will be collecting childrens books to donate to childrens homeless shelters and non-profit organizations around the country.
Additional projects include a garden reboot for Timmys Garden (located at the Childrens Greenhouse Child Care Center), a Peanut Butter n Jelly Jam to donate sandwiches to local shelters, as well as a donation drive for the Nest, NCCs on-campus food pantry. All collections will take place 9:15 a.m. - 2:15 p.m. in the CCB Multipurpose room and the CCB lobby. Items being collected include non-perishable food, pet supplies, childrens books and textbooks, as well as hygiene products. A full list of projects can be found on the NCC website and an opportunity to donate to the NCC Foundation in support of the Day of Service can be found on the NCC Foundations website.
